Yes. As of November 10, 2025, Hyvä Theme is fully open source and free, licensed under OSL 3.0 and AFL 3.0. It's available on GitHub and via free license keys through a Hyvä customer account. There's no longer a commercial theme fee for the base theme - though Hyvä Checkout and Hyvä UI remain standalone commercial products with their own licensing.
Absolutely. Extensions built for Luma/Blank don't work out of the box in Hyvä - they require compatibility modules that re-implement the affected frontend parts. Our compatibility mapping phase identifies every affected extension, and we either build compatibility modules from scratch or adapt existing ones. No mid-project surprises.
No. Hyvä Checkout is a standalone commercial product that requires its own valid license. It's separate from the open-source Hyvä Theme. We handle the licensing arrangement and full implementation as part of our Checkout packages - including PSP integration, shipping setup, and conversion-focused UX customization.
Hyvä UI is a library of pre-built, fully functional .phtml components designed specifically for Hyvä - like Tailwind UI but for Magento. It's a separate standalone commercial product. It's not required, but it significantly accelerates development and ensures UI quality and consistency. We'll recommend it where it delivers clear value for your project.
